Seahorses are ridiculously poor swimmers. They are the slowest-moving of all fish species because of an impeccably tiny fin in the middle of their backs being the only way to propel themselves. Due to their unique anatomical shape and lack of scales, many people may not consider them to be ‘fish’ at first, but they are indeed. Seahorse couples are essentially serial monogamists. Every morning, they engage in ritualistic dances to greet each other, moving through intricate, rhythmic sequences of twists and twirls for minutes to hours on end. Seahorses are considered to be a vulnerable species due to pollution, habitat destruction, and overfishing. During the past five years, seahorse populations have decreased by 50%. Having existed for 13 million years, they could be the creatures of the past in three decades unless a drastic action is taken. We donate 10% of bracelet sales towards cleaning up ocean plastic.
